University hosts health care conference

08 April 2003

The University of Teesside's School of Health & Social Care is hosting a three-day conference from Wednesday 18 June to Friday 20 June, to promote evidence-based, user-focused practice for the management and prevention of musculoskeletal conditions.

During the conference, the 2nd International meeting of eMusk is being held. (See Notes to Editors). Events include talks by leading international practitioners, such as Associate Professor Sally Green, Director of the Australasian Cochrane Centre , Dr Gino Kerkhoffs, from the University of Amsterdam, Professor Ray Marks, from Columbia University in the US and Gustavo Zanoli, from Ferrara University in Italy. UK-based experts include several from the University of Teesside, as well as members of professional organisations such as Professor Paul Gregg, President of the British Orthopaedic Association, and representatives from Help the Aged, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the National Health Service. Interdisciplinary workshops designed to generate guidelines, reports and policy papers form part of the programme.

Professor Tracey Howe, Assistant Director of the School of Health & Social Care, and principle organiser of the eMusk conference, said: "The first international meeting of eMusk was held in Italy in 2001, so as the international Co-ordinating Centre , we are very proud to be holding this meeting alongside our major conference. An event like this gives colleagues from all over the world the chance to exchange ideas, experiences, techniques and take part in workshops, in an open and informal environment. It's a great opportunity to really make a difference to the future of musculoskeletal-related treatment, and perhaps more importantly, find ways to further preventive methods to help people avoid problems in the future."

Notes to Editors: eMusk is an international initiative aimed at practitioners and students in the fields of orthopaedics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and other associated medical fields. It aims to share best practice, evidence and research results. Ticket costs: If booking before the end of April, £60.00 per day pass or £150.00 for all three days. If booking after April, £80.00 per day pass or £200.00 for all three days.
