Unearthing the Evidence

22 April 2003

A short talk entitled ‘The Development of Forensic Archaeology as an Investigative Tool’ is to be given at the University of Teesside’s Centre for Applied Socio-Legal Studies (CASL) Seminar Room in the Clarendon Building Room A1001 at 5pm on Wednesday 7 May.

The talk will be given by Geoffrey Knupfer, Acting Director of CASL, which is part of the University’s School of Social Sciences and Law.

Mr Knupfer is an experienced law enforcement officer, having held the position of Detective Chief Superintendent in the Greater Manchester Police force. He also held this rank at the Home Office before taking up the post of Dean at the National Training Centre for Scientific Support to Crime Investigation, based in Durham.

“Archaeological skills and processes are making a significant contribution in criminal investigation. My talk will discuss the ways in which archaeology is being used to both recover and maximise the value of any evidence that has been buried,” explained Mr Knupfer.

Places at this event, which will be of interest to lawyers, law enforcement officers, professionals working within criminal justice agencies and academics, can be reserved by calling the Secretary at CASLS on 01642 342333, or by email to casls@tees.ac.uk
