Sign up for a scientific Sunday

06 June 2003

The young, and young at heart, will be given the chance to sample some of the wonders of the scientific world at the University of Teesside on Sunday 22 June. As part of the Science is Great week being staged at the University from 16 – 22 June, all members of the general public can explore the world of science on Sunday 22 June, from 11am to 4pm.

Among the ‘experiences’ available on the Sunday will be:

  • A challenge, where visitors will be encouraged to use their skills and imagination to design, make and test an object with a flight theme
  • Forces Science Show, where presenters from the Cardiff science centre, Techniquest, will demonstrate how forces affect the speed and direction of objects.
  • Starlab Planetarium, a journey of discovery of stars, constellations and planets
  • Hands-on, 12 exciting hands-on exhibits from the Techniquest science centre including a Bernoulli blower, hydrogen rocket and wobbly bridge

The event will be housed in the Constantine, Waterhouse and Sport and Recreation Buildings at the University from 11am to 4pm. Admission for adults will be £2.00, and children (5-15) £1.50. There will be an additional charge of 50p for entry to the Planetarium.

Science is Great is organised by SETPOINT Tees Valley on behalf of the British Association for the Advancement of Science (the BA) and is supported by a host of sponsors, supporters and volunteers including learn2work Tees Valley, University of Teesside, SETPOINT Tees Valley, the BA and the Cleveland Scientific Institute
