Science is Great at Teesside

Local media are invited to visit the Science is Great event at the University of Teesside. Science is Great is a weeklong celebration of fun science events for local children and adults to see how science affects everyday life. It runs from Monday 16 to Sunday 22 June.

Any interested media can come along to the Main Reception in the Middlesbrough Tower (off Borough Road) at the University of Teesside. A representative from Science is Great will then escort them to around the event to photograph and/or film the children taking part in the hands-on science activities. Please call the Press Office on 01642 342015 prior to arrival to ensure an escort is made available.

The Science is Great week includes the Forces Science Show (a show hosted by Cardiff-based Techniquest, the UK’s leading science discovery centre), the Starlab Planetarium (a discovery of stars, constellations and planets) and 12 hands-on exhibitions, also from Techniquest. It will be attended by 500 Cub Scouts and Brownies, 3,000 local school children aged 7 to 11 years old and up to 750 members of the public throughout the week, from Monday 16 – Sunday 22 June.

Science is Great is organised by SETPOINT Tees Valley on behalf of the British Association for the Advancement of Science (the BA) and is supported by a host of sponsors, supporters and volunteers including learn2work Tees Valley, University of Teesside, the Institution of Electrical Engineers, BASF and the Cleveland Scientific Institution.
