An emergency launch takes place

An entirely new health research department will be officially launched at the University of Teesside next week. The Department for Emergency Medicine will be based at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, and is a partnership with the University’s School of Health & Social Care. The Department will be launched on Wednesday 23 July at 9.10am by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Graham Henderson, in Room HO.53, Centuria Building, Victoria Road, Middlesbrough.

The launch is part of the Teesside Trauma Conference: Head and Spinal Injury. The conference aims to share good practice in emergency care, and will be attended by doctors, nurses and allied health professionals such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists from across the region.

The Department for Emergency Medicine will attract funding by the Department of Health & Social Care through Professor IanGreaves, who recently received a Professorial appointment with the University.

Professor Ian Greaves, who is a consultant in accident and emergency at The James Cook University Hospital will open the conference. He is also an Army Colonel, based at Catterick Garrison, and has recently returned from the Gulf. There will be an opportunity to photograph Professor Greaves with Paul Keane, Director of the University of Teesside’s School of Health & Social Care at 10.20am on Wednesday 23 July in Room HO.53, Centuria Building, Victoria Road, Middlesbrough.

Paul Keane said: “This new department will complement the school’s increasing research profile as well as enhancing education and training developments across the field of emergency care. The school is already working closely with the Strategic Heath Authority in preparing practitioners for new roles in emergency care and this new department will again help to promote evidence based practice in this area.”
