Peru trek for Butterwick Children's Hospice

29 July 2003

Lee Graham, the University of Teesside’s Equality & Diversity Officer, aims to raise funds for the Butterwick Children’s Hospice by taking part in the Walk the Inca Trail in Peru from Friday 5 - Sunday 14 September. The nine-day trek will take in tropical rain forests, hills, mountains, streams and lakes. She will average seven to nine hours a day of walking.

Aiming to raise at least £3,000, Lee is appealing for help from the public. She said: “I don't like heights, hate spiders and creepy crawlies, and need at least two hours to do my hair and make up before venturing out of the house, let alone a tent in the middle of a rain forest half way up a mountain! But I really do want to make a difference.

“Whenever I watch fund raising events, from the comfort of my armchair, I always think 'Next time I'll do something to help' and then end up sticking a tenner in a collection box the day after. So this time I am doing something, and with a little help and support I hope to make a difference for the children at the Butterwick Hospice. The Hospice cares for terminally ill children from birth to the age of 19 and their families. It’s a great cause and I would really appreciate donations from anyone who would like to help.”

Anyone wishing to get in touch with Lee to make a donation can call her on 01642 342208, or e-mail: l.graham@tees.ac.uk.
