Christmas Party with a Difference

03 December 2003

The University of Teesside’s Department of Student Services are gearing up for their annual alcohol-free Christmas party. The party rounds off a cross-campus health education roadshow, promoting alcohol awareness and reducing the risks of drinking alcohol to excess.

Paula Szucs-Jones, from the Department of Student Services, said: “The aim of this event is to promote sensible drinking and highlight the effects of drinking to excess and binge drinking. Binge-drinking can cause serious health problems and with Christmas approaching there is more opportunity to indulge.”

Student Health Advisor, Aline Marron, said: “We hope that the people at this party will be more aware of the potential risks and will drink sensibly during the Christmas period. It will show students and staff that non-alcoholic drinks are not always tasteless or boring and that there is a wide range of interesting and enjoyable products to choose from.”

The Christmas party is sponsored by Marks & Spencer, which has provided a range of non-alcoholic drinks and a variety of Christmas snacks.
