Virtual art at Teesside

05 December 2003

The University of Teesside is inviting local artists with an interest in learning new media skills to take part in a Virtual Reality art project.

The free one-day workshop, the first in a series of five, will be held at the University’s state-of-the-art Virtual Reality (VR) Centre on Wednesday 10 December, 9am - 5.30pm, to introduce 20 artists to the possibilities of using high tech equipment to produce stunning works of art. The workshop will also offer the opportunity for the artists to develop ideas using the VR equipment to create artwork for the Darlington Station Opera Project in 2004, a joint scheme between Northern Stage and Creative Partnerships Tees Valley which will result in an opera to be directed by Alan Lyddiard and performed at a site-specific location, in August 2004.

Carol Cooke, Cultural & Creative Development Industries Manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for local artists to expand on their existing skills to learn how to use high-tech photographic and imaging equipment. I would encourage any artist to get in touch and sign up for the workshop day.”

To get an application form to take part in the workshop, or to find out how to create artwork for the Darlington Station Opera Project, contact the Cultural & Creative Industries Unit, on 01642 384220, e-mail: creatives@tees.ac.uk
