A Meteoric taste for learning

23 January 2004

The University of Teesside’s Meteor scheme, which aims to raise the aspirations of young people in the Tees Valley by introducing them to University life while at primary school, will be hosting its annual Taster Days from Monday 26 - Friday 30 January.

Nearly 450 pupils from 11 of local primary schools take part in maths, science and computer activities, which aim to be fun and informative. They will also be treated to a special performance of Peter Pan by the Meteor organising team.

Wendy Bell, Schools Liaison Officer (Primary), said: “The taster days are a fun and informal way of introducing the children to a modern University. They will take part in a variety of hands-on sessions designed to improve their maths, science and computer skills, as well as making them comfortable about being in a University building. They will see that Higher Education is something that they can aspire to.”
