How to stub it out in 2004

30 January 2004

Student and staff who smoke at the University of Teesside will be given help and advice on how to quit the habit when the University’s new Smoking Cessation Service is launched on Tuesday 3 February, at 12pm, at the new £6m Olympia Sports Building on Victoria Road, Middlesbrough.

Organised in collaboration with the Teesside Smoking Cessation Service and the University’s Student Services Department, it will be launched by Professor Mike Smith, the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & External) of the University of Teesside. The launch event will also include an address from Student Health Advisor Aline Marron to explain the need for the service and guests from Teesside Smoking Cessation Service talking about their work.

Aline Marron, said: “Quitting smoking is not an easy thing to do and this service aims to improve the health of students and staff who smoke by helping them to quit. We’ll be offering advice about nicotine replacement therapies, alternative methods such as homeopathy and traditional withdrawal from cigarettes. We can also offer advice about controlling weight gain, which often puts people off giving up.”

Members of the media are welcome to attend the launch event.
