14 June 2004

What changes can we expect in the educational system for pupils aged 14 – 19? How will future exams differ from now? What is the probable future stipulation for entry to University?

All of these questions and more will be examined at a special free lecture by a local education expert at the University of Teesside on Wednesday 30 June, from 6.30pm – 8pm.

University of Teesside honorary graduate Professor Joe Herbst was Head of Department, then Associate Dean, of the University of Teesside from 1969 – 1990. He is now an Emeritus Professor of the University and a long-term adviser on educational policy.

Professor Herbst is currently undertaking significant research in to reforming the educational system in the UK and has had numerous articles and letters published in journals and corresponded with many government ministers and senior educators on the topic.

Professor Herbst said: “My lecture will look critically at the major moves to reform our 14 - 19 education, the academic-vocational progression, and a possible new examination structure, replacing the current A-level system and acceptable to the universities and the further education sector.”

The lecture is of particular interest to those working in the secondary and further and higher education sectors, students and parents of students.
