Clearing the way to a new future

11 August 2004

Many students are expected to ring the University of Teesside’s help lines after receiving their 'A' level results on Thursday 19 August 2004 to confirm their place at university. Known as ‘Confirmation and Clearing’, and lasting until mid-September, the aim is to match potential students to courses which still have vacancies. It has also become increasingly popular with people making late applications to university. New courses this year include Digital Music, Television Production Professional Practice, Investigative Studies, and Forensic Biology.

The help lines swing into action from Thursday 19 to Wednesday 25 August.

The numbers to ring are:

General Enquiries - 01642 384243 from 8:30am until 8:30pm
Teesside Business School - 01642 342807 from 8:30am until 8.30pm
School of Computing - 01642 342639 from 8:30am until 8.30pm

School of Science & Technology - 01642 342499 from 8:30am until 8.30pm

On Saturday 28 August staff will be available from 10:00am until 4:00pm.

Requests for Clearing information can also be emailed: registry@tees.ac.uk or visit the University of Teesside’s web site at www.tees.ac.uk

Kathryn Turnbull, University of Teesside’s Academic Registrar, said: “The Clearing help lines are intended to provide students with detailed information on current vacancies and entry requirements. Staff will be available to make offers or advise students how to proceed with their application. If students are unsure about what course they would like to take, a range of support is available at the University to provide advice and guidance.”

A range of Foundation degrees is also available. These courses are tailored for people already in work, or with a very clear career direction. The Foundation Degree courses include Assisting Learning (for classroom support staff), Early Years, Emergency Services, Journalism, Digital Media, Chemical Technology, and a wide range of Business and e-business courses. Most of the Foundation Degrees are delivered across the Tees Valley in the University’s partner Further Education colleges. For more information, please call the University of Teesside’s Course Information Centre on 01642 384277, email: courseinfo@tees.ac.uk
