University student business awards

22 September 2004

The Tees Valley heat of a new regional competition to find the best student and graduate entrepreneurs in the North East takes place on Thursday 30 September.

Hosted by Professor Graham Henderson, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Teesside, the event takes place at the Thistle Hotel, Middlesbrough, starting with a reception at 6pm. The evening will include presentations by two graduate companies, chilli media and Yuzu, both launched through the University’s business incubation scheme, Upgrade². There will also be an opportunity to find out how Teesside is encouraging students and graduates to set up their own enterprises.

The new regional universities business plan competition invited students and graduates to present their ideas for new business ventures to a local judging panel and several of the University’s new graduate start-up businesses are in the local finals.

The winner of the Tees Valley competition will collect a prize of £1,000 and go forward to the finals of the North East Universities Business Plan at the Gosforth Park Hotel, Newcastle, on Thursday 28 October, where a £10,000 prize is up for grabs.

Local heats are taking place around the region. The competition is open to students and graduates with promising business ideas from the universities of Teesside, Sunderland, Durham, Northumbria and Newcastle.
