Join the University’s wildbunch!

14 February 2005

The University of Teesside’s nursery garden is to undergo a Ground Force style makeover, courtesy of the University’s volunteers, a combination of staff and students.

The makeover is part of a series of events to highlight National Student Volunteering week, which takes place from Monday 21- Friday 25 February. There will be an opportunity to photograph the volunteers during the makeover, entitled ‘Wildbunch!’ at the University Nursery, Park Lane, Middlesbrough at 2pm on Tuesday 22 February.

Jayne Villiers, the University’s Volunteer Co-ordinator, said: “University volunteers are gaining a whole variety of skills and experiences by taking part in National Student Volunteering Week events. And they’re supporting their local community at the same time. ”

Janet Graham, Nursery Manager at the University said: “The nursery staff and children have tried on a previous occasion to make something of this area but with very little success, so it’s great of the volunteers to make this possible. I know that the children will enjoy being involved with the planting, and the area will provide us with lots of learning opportunities in the future. We are really grateful for the input of all those concerned with this project.”

Other events during the week include Fancy Dress, game shows and volunteer sports coaching.
