England Physio scores at Teesside

23 February 2005

The challenges of being a Physiotherapist with the England Football team will be revealed at a free public lecture at the University of Teesside on Wednesday 9 March 2005, 6.30pm – 8pm.

Alan Smith, former physiotherapist for the England football team, served under the managements of Bobby Robson, Terry Venables, Glenn Hoddle, Kevin Keegan and Sven-Goran Eriksson. His talk, entitled The England Job, will cover his work with the many famous football personalities and his role in the rehabilitation of key footballers including David Beckham before the 2002 World Cup and Alan Shearer before Euro 96. Alan’s last match before retiring was England v Brazil in the 2002 World Cup Quarter Final.

Alan was born in Middlesbrough and awarded an Honorary Master of Science degree from the University of Teesside in 2002.

Alan Smith said: “My talk is about my career with the England team and the characters I worked with over the years. It’s a talk for the public, not just physiotherapists, so it won’t be too technical. I hope people enjoy it.”

His lecture, held as part of the Honorary and Professorial Public Lecture Series, is open to all and will be held in the Centuria Building, off Victoria Road, Middlesbrough. Refreshments will be served from 6pm.
