All the World’s a Stage

23 May 2005

Middlesbrough-born playwright and radio presenter Wally K Daly will explain how his personal experiences have influenced his work in a free lecture at the University of Teesside.

The lecture will be held on Wednesday 8 June 2005 from 6.30 – 8pm at the Centuria Building, off Victoria Road, Middlesbrough. Refreshments will be served from 6pm.

The lecture will explore how events in Wally’s life have been reflected in his plays. Wally will examine how various pieces of work, including Whistling Wally (about his youth in Grangetown) to Happy Ever After (which was influenced by his divorce) came into being and how every individual is influenced by their personal life.

Born in Grangetown in Middlesbrough, Wally has written over 200 plays and sitcoms for television and radio. His work includes many episodes of the TV shows Byker Grove and Casualty, and the plays I have Sinned and Death of an Unimportant Pope. He received an honorary Master of Literature degree from the University in 1995.

Wally’s talk, All the World’s a Stage, will conclude the University’s Honorary and Professorial Public Lecture Series for this year.

For more information about Wally’s talk, contact Sarah Irving, University of Teesside Alumni Officer, on 01642 384255 or email alumni.office@tees.ac.uk.
