Region hosts International Conference on the application of Virtual Reality on Construction

12 September 2005

An international conference exploring the challenges of using Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in architecture, engineering and construction will be held on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 September at the Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County.

The conference, called CONVR2005, is organised by the Centre for Construction Innovation and Research (CCIR) which is based at the University of Teesside’s School of Science and Technology.

The CONVR2005 conference will include research and industrial paper presentations, panels, short papers and demonstrations and more. The industrial programme will include a product demonstration showroom. Awards for best paper, best demonstration and the best student paper will also be announced during the event.

Professor Nash Dawood, from the School of Science and Technology, said: “This is the fifth international gathering of experts in the area of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality application to the construction industry. The series of conferences was initiated by CCIR at Teesside and the first conference was held at the University of Teesside back in September 2000. The conference will discuss the applications of the technology to improve productivity of the construction process and the quality of the end product. Experts from USA, Japan, EU and UK will discuss technology and implementation issues. By hosting the conference in the north east we are showing the region’s forward thinking, enterprising culture to the rest of the world.”
