Log on for a Laptop

27 October 2005

State-of-the-art study is now available for a pair of teenagers. They have both won laptop computers in a prize draw run by the University of Teesside.

Michelle Thomas, 17, from Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, and Daniel Mistry, 17, from Loughborough, won the Toshiba computers after taking part in an online prize draw. The computers were presented at the University’s Open Day. And there are still two more up for grabs!

The prize draw can be entered via the University of Teesside’s website www.tees.ac.uk and the UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) website www.ucas.com to mark the first year of all prospective students applying to university online.

The second prize draw for the final two laptops will be held on Friday 16 December and people can enter right up until Thursday 15 December. Michelle goes to Kings Academy, Middlesbrough and is studying IT, Science and Health. She said: “I feel that I know the University quite well with being local but even so I’ve found out there’s a lot of facilities I didn’t know about.  Teesside has got a great reputation for computing and IT and loads of courses in this area, which means I can leave my options open until I finally come here.” Daniel, who is studying Computing, Leisure & Recreation and Human Biology at Burleigh Community College in Loughborough said: “Teesside is on my shortlist of six universities as I’d heard that its one of the best for sports courses.  I’ve been really impressed with the facilities today, especially the new Olympia Sport Building and its specialist laboratories.”

The Toshiba Pro L10 is a slim, highly portable personal computer and features a DVD drive and CD rewriter, 40Gb hard drive, 15” screen and comes complete with the Windows XP Professional operating system.
