CONCEPT films at Teesside

03 April 2006

Local film makers will be showcasing their talent at a special free event at the University of Teesside. Entitled Concept, the event will take place on Monday 10 April from 7pm-8.25pm in the Europa Building, Woodlands Road, Middlesbrough. Booking is not required and seats will allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Five short films will be screened, covering a range of styles, including documentary and animation. They include the work of established film maker Sandra Hill and two University of Teesside graduates Ronak Singh and Robert Barker. Each film maker will individually introduce their film before the screenings.

Refreshments will follow the five films, which are not suitable for a family audience.

The five films are:

Nakuma, by Ronak Singh - a children’s fantasy story of good versus evil.

Fell off the Back of a Boat, by Sandra Hill – An animated adventure out at sea.

Inner Realms, by Robert Barker - a documentary which explores addiction to computer games.

Artificial Worlds, by Richard Fenwick - a group of survivors flee a barely glimpsed foe in a post-apocalyptic world.

The fifth film title is yet to be confirmed.

Concept is sponsored by the University’s DigitalCity project. DigitalCity has been developed by a partnership involving the University, regional development agency One NorthEast, Tees Valley Partnership and Middlesbrough Council. The project will create a cluster of companies to help regenerate the Tees Valley.

Paul Williams, organiser of Concept, said: “This event is the first of its kind in the Tees Valley. It’s an opportunity to support local businesses and local film makers.”
