Local MP explores virtual world

16 May 2006

Ashok Kumar, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, will explore the virtual world of Sherwood City, a futuristic metropolis, on Thursday 18 May at the University of Teesside. Mr Kumar has been invited to attend the University’s first expoTEES event, which displays the work of 40 selected final year Computing students.

Mr Kumar is the invited guest of BA (Hons) Computer Games Design student Steve Kay, 21, from Sheffield, who has designed Sherwood City. There will be an opportunity to photograph Mr Kumar with Steve Kay at 2.30pm on Thursday 18 May in the New Technology Institute Suite, Victoria Road Building, Victoria Road, Middlesbrough.

ExpoTEES takes place from 1pm-5pm, is free and open to all members of the public. Other projects include an on-line property developer and a computer game aimed solely at the female market.

Michelle Tellam, organiser of expoTEES, said: “We’ll be showcasing talent from all our computing degrees, including Computer Games and Animation. Students will be available to describe their projects, share expertise and displays will be interactive. ExpoTEES is really useful for everyone, from future computing students to anybody who is just thinking about a course in this area.”
