Vin’s career – in speech and song!

14 November 2006

Internationally famous folk singer Vin Garbutt will be describing his career in speech and song in a free lecture at the University of Teesside on Wednesday 29 November. Entitled ‘37 years of successful anonymity’ the lecture will take place in Room HO.01, Centuria Building, Victoria Road, from 6.30pm - 8.00pm. It is free and open to the general public. Refreshments are available from 6.00pm.

Vin's lecture starts the University's Honorary and Professorial lecture series for 2006-2007. He was awarded an honorary Master of Arts by the University in November 2001.

Vin Garbutt is a highly successful folk singer, who began his career in 1963 aged 15 in Teesside folk clubs. Vin has been Teesside's roving folk ambassador for over 30 years, performing worldwide from Teesside to Australia. His songs are largely inspired by the people and culture of Teesside and North Yorkshire.

Lucy Owens, the University's Acting Alumni Officer, said: "Vin will share his career story interspersed with song. He'll show how a performer can achieve the lion's share of work whilst receiving the mouse's share of the media. The lecture is a must for Vin's fans or any budding performers and there will be an opportunity to ask questions."
