Last orders at Teesside

29 November 2006

The changing face of pubs, clubs and bars will be explored in a free public lecture at the University of Teesside on Wednesday 13 December, from 6.30pm – 8.00pm.

Professor David Preece’s talk, entitled From a ‘tipple in the local’ to a ‘quality experience in a servicescape’: The changing nature of UK Public House Retailing since the late 1980s, will draw on his extensive research experience of the UK pub trade. The lecture is open to all and will be held in Room HO.01, Centuria Building, Victoria Road. Refreshments will be served from 6.00pm.

The lecture will review and comment upon the key changes which have taken place in the sector since the end of the 1980s. It will compare the simple ‘pint in a pub’ approach of the past, to today’s industry where a drink is only one part of the customer experience.

Professor Preece has a long-standing interest in the UK pub trade and has a number of publications associated with this work, including Work, Change and Competition: Managing for Bass. He has also addressed conferences around the world including the Australia, France, Sweden, Hong Kong, Finland and Germany.
