Postgraduate Fair and a free Tonic at Teesside

15 March 2007

The University of Teesside is hosting two very different events on Tuesday 20 March.

The annual Postgraduate Fair, which takes place in the Centuria Building, Victoria Road, from 11.00am to 2.00pm and from 4.00pm-7.00pm.

Information and advice on a range of postgraduate courses will be available, including business, creative writing, criminology, design, education, engineering, health, law, marketing, multimedia and sport and exercise. The Fair is open to graduates from any University.

Advice will also be offered from the University's Careers Service, along with campus tours and presentations.

In addition, information will be available on the University’s non means-tested postgraduate bursaries. These are worth £2,400 to most full-time UK and EU students on taught postgraduate courses. All students will receive an Achievement Award of £500 subject to satisfactory progression. For more information contact the University’s Finance Department on 01642 342156 or e-mail finance@tees.ac.uk. The bursaries do not apply to research degrees or taught doctorates. To book a place at the Postgraduate Fair call 01642 342942, email hotline@tees.ac.uk or book on-line on the University’s web site.

In addition, Open Clasp, a women's theatre company from Newcastle Upon Tyne, will perform Catrina McHugh's play, Tonic, in the University’s Main Hall, Brittan Building, from 4.30pm-6.15pm. The play is free and open to all members of the public.

The World Cup is on and four women are determined to get away from it all. However, an uninvited guest and a suitcase full of money throw their plans into disarray. This scenario forms the plot of Tonic, which has been directly informed by young women throughout the North East and described as ‘a story of courage, hope and survival’.

Mark Dooley, Senior Lecturer in English, said: “Open Clasp is an exciting theatre company who do very important work in the community. This play promises to both entertain and challenge its audience and I am delighted that it will be staged here at the University of Teesside.”

Free tickets can be reserved by e-mailing Mark Dooley at m.dooley@tees.ac.uk.
