Work unveiled by DigitalCity Fellows

From films about polygamist African chiefs to sensuous art installations and gaming mastery, the latest DigitalCity exhibition has it all.

The showcase of recent work by DigitalCity Fellows and the start-up businesses it supports, reveals a range of skills and creativity nurtured by DigitalCity mentors.

Shane Walter, Director of the world’s largest digital media festival onedotzero, will officially open the exhibition at a VIP event for invited guests on March 17.

The exhibition will then be open to the public from 10.00am to 4.00pm on March 18 and 19 in the University of Teesside’s Phoenix Building, home of the Institute of Digital Innovation, behind the Evening Gazette offices in Middlesbrough.

As well as visual artwork by Michael Wright and Ally Best, the exhibition will feature presentations and screenings of six films - including one about Teesside’s post industrial photographer Ian Macdonald. Work by animators, photographers, graphic designers and CGI artists can also be seen.

A centrepiece of the exhibition is a playable demo of Philanthropy Studios’ Synthesesia. The Xbox 360 game will be projected on a screen on the first floor of the building, giving it its first ever public showing.

Antony Woods, Managing Director of Philanthropy Studios, said: ‘We are really excited about the exhibition. It will be an opportunity for us to show off our game concept and get feedback from our peers and the public.’

Scott Wilson, Enterprise Co-ordinator, DigitalCity, said the exhibition provides an opportunity for the public to view groundbreaking art, film and software. He added: ‘We want people to know not only how talented our Fellows are, but how their work can benefit other businesses across the region.’
