Free courses to shed light on the past

25 April 2008

If you’ve ever come across old photographs or dusty documents but were unsure how to learn more about them, a series of free local history events could help to uncover your family’s past.

Staff from the History Department have joined forces with libraries across the region to promote Local History Month through free, interactive sessions.

Lecturers Tony Nicholson and Norma Sutcliffe will lead the sessions which aim to introduce anyone interested in local history to a range of sources which can help to shed light on the past.

Tony will reveal how he was able to uncover a tragic love story which unfolded almost a hundred years ago by piecing together documents discovered in his attic. Norma will focus on how individual memories can be used to shed new light on our region’s past.

Margaret Hems, Head of History, said: ‘This is a great opportunity to discover more about your past in a relaxed and informal setting.’
