Spotlight on performing arts students

01 May 2008

Performing Arts students from the University will be in the spotlight at their annual Degree Showcase.

BA (Hons) Performance and Events Production students will present highlights from their final year at 7.30pm on Tuesday 6 May and Wednesday 7 May at Middlesbrough Theatre.

Students who have completed the University degree course at Stockton Riverside College and Middlesbrough College will each present a segment of their final projects to showcase their performance and event production skills.

The performances are open to the public. Tickets, priced £5 and £4 concessions, are available from Middlesbrough Theatre box office on 01642 815181.

Among the students will be Kirsty Fleetham, 20, of Stockton, who aims to become a drama teacher. Her final project is directing the John Godber play Lucky Sods at Stockton Riverside College – with the first ten minutes of the show being unveiled at the final degree showcase.

Kirsty said: ‘I performed in a John Godber play and fell in love with his writing. This play is about a couple who don’t get on, but then win the Lottery.’

She added: ‘I really enjoy working behind the scenes and seeing how those on stage develop. The course has given me so much confidence and also a lot of knowledge about what goes on behind the scenes.’

Kate Burnett, 20, of Middlesbrough, enjoyed the performance side of the degree course and hopes to pursue a career in the theatre.

She said: ‘I’ve always been interested in singing and dancing and will be singing a solo performance during the final showcase.’
