Four new Trustees have been chosen to help students get the most out of their university experience.

The foursome have taken up vital posts within the Students’ Union and during their year in charge have vowed to do their best for those studying at Teesside.

  • Tommy Cawkwell was elected President
  • Jules Pringle, Education and Welfare Officer
  • Mark Gillespie, Communications Officer
  • Nat Broom, Student Activities Officer.

Tommy Cawkwell is a 25-year-old Criminology graduate from Thirsk. He has been one of the Students’ Union DJs for three years and is also chair of the men’s cricket club and poker society.

'I am really proud to have been elected President’, explained Tommy. ‘It is a really good job, with huge responsibility. I will have to manage the budget carefully and, being a DJ, I am also keen to improve the entertainment side of things for students.’

Jules Pringle, 22, has taken a year out from her BSc (Hons) Crime Scene Investigation to work as a Trustee at the Students’ Union. One of her main aims for the coming year is to run various campaigns on topics ranging from sexual health to exam stress.

Mark Gillespie is a 23-year-old Media Studies graduate from Belfast. In his new role, the keen sportsman will run the Students’ Union newspaper, PTO, and work with partner colleges to make sure students get the best deal possible.

Nat Broom, 22, originally from the Isle of Wight, graduated in Sports Therapy in 2007 and is part way through a master’s in Sport and Exercise Science. She said: ‘I have taken a year out from studying to work as a Trustee and I will be involved with activities for the clubs and societies which run from the Students’ Union.’
