Thanks for the memories

06 October 2008

A lecturer has used his memories of the past to create work for a prestigious exhibition.

Marcus Diamond, a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design, is showing his Magnetic North project in Design Event 08.

Design Event 08 is an annual festival in the North East providing the public with an opportunity to see cutting edge work by regional, national and international designers.

Marcus’ Magnetic North looks at the mapping and topology of certain points, people and memories throughout the North East. It consists of images, installations, limited edition books and an experimental film.

The work examines themes of absence, occupancy and reaction through opposites such as north and south and negative and positive.

Places selected for Magnetic North hold memories of the past for Marcus but have also changed significantly and his work is designed to question how we move through and react to a specific place.

Marcus, who co-founded the design company Neasden Control Centre, has previously exhibited at The Centre de Cultura Contemporania, in Barcelona, The Filesharing Gallery, in Berlin and at The National Gallery, in London.

Magnetic North will be available to view from 10 – 25 October at Kings House, Forth Banks, Newcastle.
