As part of the campaign, which runs from 13-17 October, first year students living in the University’s halls of residence will receive a ‘meningitis awareness’ coaster which has details of the University’s meningitis web pages, NHS Direct and Meningitis Trust.
The campaign, entitled ‘think about meningitis’ will also feature:
Aline Marron, University Student Health Adviser, said: ‘Students fall into the 18-25-year-old age group, which is slightly more at risk. The symptoms can be similar to flu and students need to make themselves aware of the signs and look out for themselves and their friends.
‘Even if they have been vaccinated against Meningitis C they are not protected against other strains such as Meningitis B, which accounts for the highest number of cases.’
