Opportunities for postgraduate study

13 February 2009

As the credit crunch bites an increasing number of people are looking to change career and postgraduate study can offer a new direction.

An opportunity to learn more about postgraduate study and how our generous bursary scheme can help is on offer at an open day.

£2,400 postgraduate bursary We are one of the few institutions offering a non-repayable £2,400 postgraduate bursary to support full-time students starting in October.

The open day will be held in the Centre for Enterprise, Victoria Road, Middlesbrough, on Tuesday 3 March, running in two parts, from 10.00am to 2.00pm and 4.00pm to 7.00pm, with information and advice on a variety of work-orientated postgraduate courses.

Returning to study in the current economic climate is advantageous as it offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills, while also giving a competitive edge in the jobs market.

Bernie Wallis, the University Project Director for UK Student Recruitment, said: 'Studying on a postgraduate course with us can help to set you on a new or different career path, giving you an advantage when applying for a new job and helping with your promotional prospects.

We can meet your needs 'Whether you are considering part-time study to fit around your work or other commitments, or full-time study which comes with one of the best postgraduate bursaries available anywhere, I am sure we can meet your needs.'

Among the many students who have embarked on postgraduate study at Teesside is Sandeep Roy, from Secunderbad, in India, who is currently working towards an MA in Creative Digital Media.

He said: 'I wanted to gain an in-depth knowledge of computer animation and games, so I decided to enrol at a higher level. It’s an area I’ve always wanted to study.'

Sandeep is impressed with the campus and student services, adding: 'The University has a lot of facilities for computing students and I’ve gained an enormous amount of knowledge from this course.

Open day visitors can seek careers advice, tour the campus and attend a range of presentations. Subject areas include business, counselling, criminology, education, engineering, health, law, marketing, multimedia and sport and exercise.
