Judge to deliver verdict on the justice system

10 March 2009

The University is to host a lecture by Senior Circuit Judge and Recorder of Middlesbrough Judge Peter Fox QC.

Judge Fox, who was awarded an honorary doctorate in law from the University in 2003, will talk about current threats to the independence of the legal profession.

He will present his lecture, in a rescheduled date, in the Centuria Building, off Victoria Road, from 6.30pm to 7.45pm on Wednesday 18 March.

Help or hinder the course of justice Judge Fox will examine his chosen subject from the perspective of the judiciary, the Bar, the Law Society and the public interest, questioning whether recent and present changes in public funding of criminal, civil and family law cases help or hinder the course of justice.

He will also consider whether the law has become too complex or academic for the public good or even for the lawyers to understand.

This free event is part of the our 2008-09 Honorary and Professorial Public Lecture Series. Tickets can be booked by contacting the University’s Alumni Office on 01642 384255 or email alumni.office@tees.ac.uk
