Creative talent to converge on Teesside

A wealth of creative student talent will be on display from Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May.

Creative Arts Week, will feature students’ work from courses in the School of Arts & Media:

  • Design
  • English Studies
  • Fine Art
  • History
  • Media
  • Performing Arts.

The events are free and open to the public.

Programme

Design and Fine Art exhibition - of students’ final-year work, this will be displayed in both the second floor of the Constantine Building and the Athena Building, Woodlands Road. The exhibition opens on Monday 11 May from 4.00pm until 8.30pm and will be formally opened at 6.30pm by Dan Walker, a Teesside design graduate who now has a hugely successful career as an illustrator and concept artist. His work has been seen in Doctor Who and the 2008 Batman film The Dark Knight. The exhibition then continues from Tuesday 12 May to Friday 15 May, 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Media Showcase - final-year Media and TV Production student films will be shown in the Innovation Centre lecture theatre, on Thursday 14 May to Friday 15 May, from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.

Cabaret of the spoken word - featuring the work of creative writing students, on Wednesday 13 May, starting at 6.30pm in the Students’ Union Hub, first floor, Students’ Union.

Performing Arts event - featuring Dance and Performing Arts students, at Middlesbrough College’s Theatre, Dock St, Middlesbrough. The public can choose from either an open dress rehearsal at 3.00pm on Thursday 14 May or the first performance at 7.00pm on the same day, or the repeat on Friday 15 May, again at 7.00pm.

History talks - on the history of Stewart Park on Tuesday 12 May from 12 noon until 1.00pm in the Constantine Lecture Theatre, and a further talk on the History of Middlesbrough’s Cannon Street on Wednesday 13 May, again from 12 noon to 1.00pm in the Constantine Lecture Theatre.

Martin Pout, Assistant Dean in the School of Arts & Media, said: 'There really is something for everyone in Teesside University’s Creative Arts week. We have an exciting array of activities, ranging from painting to performance and we invite the public to come and see the student talent on display.'
