Matthew’s clear passion brings him to Teesside

Matthew Gray believes coming to Teesside through Clearing has set him on the right path to achieving his television dreams.

He is due to start the second year of his BA (Hons) Performance for Live and Recorded Media degree. And he says he’s never looked back since deciding to come to Teesside through the UCAS clearing system.

Matthew, 30, of Hull, came to Teesside through the Clearing system, knowing little about the area or the University. He said: 'Everything fell in to place from the moment I made the first phone call to ask about admissions. The support I received was fantastic and I was able to speak in depth to a lecturer about the course.

'I really liked the approach taken by Teesside. The positive experience made me want to come to Teesside.

'It can be a scary experience when you’re trying to find a university, but things couldn’t have been easier with Teesside. You might not know where you’re going to live or might have questions about funding, but Student Services at Teesside were really helpful too.'

The course is fantastic He added: 'The course has been fantastic and it has been a really positive experience. We’ve covered modules on devising our own piece of work, performing it and directing. We take into consideration what a stage director or film editor would be looking for through the angle of shots and composition.

'The course prepares us for a wide spectrum of possible jobs and I also I would like to go into television presenting, the course is also equipping me with many other skills in other areas too.

'The facilities we use on our course are brilliant, the stage at Middlesbrough College’s Middlehaven Campus is modelled on that used by RADA, it’s an amazing space.'

He added: 'I knew very little about the Teesside area before I came to study here, but it has been a really positive experience. Everything you might need is on your doorstep. It’s much cheaper to live here than in other parts of the country, so you are getting more value for money. I’ve made some great friends including many international students who are studying here.'
