Lynsey Edwards became the first person in the Tees Valley to receive the VImpact award for completing 100 hours of volunteering.
The VImpact award is part of the VInvolved scheme, a national programme to inspire young people to become volunteers.
Lynsey recently completed a BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise (Applied Sport Science) and is set to start a MSc Strength and Conditioning.
It was through hockey that Lynsey began volunteering, but she now leads a multi-sport project, which covers a range of activities - from golf to general exercise.
Showing commitment and passion Reflecting on her award Lynsey said: ‘I got my certificate for doing 50 hours of volunteering and the co-ordinator encouraged me to go on and complete the 100.
‘Volunteering shows an extra degree of reliability and responsibility. To turn up for something and not get paid shows a level of commitment and how passionate you are about it.
‘I’ve met so many people and it’s a great experience – I really enjoy the professional environment and everything that goes with it.’
