Amazing Animex logo to be previewed at exhibition

11 September 2009

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of our international festival of animation and games a competition was launched to design a new logo.

And the winner is Stephen Parker, 29, a student on the our master’s degree in future design.

Steven, from Middlesbrough, combines his studies with the running of a retail business in central Middlesbrough. He was told about the logo competition by his course tutor, Alison Johnson, and turned to computer games of the past for artistic inspiration.

Steven said: 'I looked at the original basic 1970s computer game Pong when I started my design. I wanted a retro feel combined with a modern use of typography. I’m a huge animation fan, of films like Bolt and have wanted to attend Animex in the past but didn’t have the time.

'I’m definitely going to next year’s Animex to see the logo being used for the first time to an international audience. I’m very happy that the organiser’s picked mine so that it will be seen for years to come. Eventually I’d like to establish my own graphic design business and this is a good start.'

Displayed as part of the University’s MADE: AMAZE exhibition Steven’s logo will be displayed as part of the University’s MADE: AMAZE exhibition in the Athena Building, on the junction of Southfield Road and Woodlands Road, Middlesbrough, from 24 - 30 September, open from 10.00am to 4.00pm (closed on Sunday 27 September).

MADE: AMAZE is a free exhibition of final work by postgraduate art and design students from the University’s Digital Arts & Design Academy. Students’ work is from the following courses: MA Future Arts, MA Future Design and MA Digital Arts & Design.

Steven will be displaying his other branding and identity work at the exhibition. He will be presented by an Ipod Touch as one of his prizes by the Animex team and be invited to the 2010 festival as a special guest, where he will receive his artwork in a commemorative frame from Chris Williams, Animex Director and one of the guest speakers.

Steven will also be invited to the closing Animex dinner as a guest with a partner and receive a free pass to Animex for 2010/11/12.
