Are you ready for the weekend?

16 September 2009

Chart-topping DJ Calvin Harris, who recently hit number one with his second album Ready for the Weekend, is to headline Freshers’ Week at Teesside.

In a major coup for the Students’ Union, Calvin Harris will take to the stage for the Freshers’ Fling on Saturday 3 October.

Calvin Harris is known for hits including Acceptable in the 80s, Girls and his dance floor smash with Dizzee Rascal Dance Wiv Me.

His set will be the climax of the 10-hour Freshers’ Fling, which will feature three rooms of music, a tattoo artist, games room and four DJ’s throughout the night.

Other highlights during Freshers’ Week, which runs from 27 September to 3 October, include a personal appearance from a mystery Big Brother 10 star, a hypnotist show and a Masquerade Ball.

It’s the best yet Tom Cawkwell, President of the Students’ Union, said: ‘I’ve been here five years, first as a student and now as an elected officer, so I’ve seen a lot of Freshers’ Weeks come and go. I can honestly say this is the best package we have put together and I really hope both new and returning students get as involved in as much of it as they possibly can.

‘We want Freshers’ Week to be all about students getting the information and support they need, then having the time of their life - this year promises to do all of that and more.’

For more information about Freshers’ Week, including how to get a half price pass for all the big evening events, call the Students’ Union on 01642 342234 or email enquiries@tees-su.org.uk. You can also drop into the Students’ Union building and pick up a freshers’ guide.
