University of the Year celebration

05 November 2009

A special celebration was held on campus to mark Teesside’s University of the Year accolade.

Around 1200 members of University staff, along with friends and relatives, crammed into The Hub in the Students’ Union building to celebrate the University’s fantastic achievements in The Times Higher Education Awards.

After enjoying the buffet, refreshments and live music from Still Misbehavin, everyone headed outside to Southfield Road to see the celebratory firework display to round off the evening in style.

Big Brother Diary Room Also as part of the celebrations, there was an opportunity to visit the Big Brother Diary Room, which was set up in the Students’ Union Resolution Meeting Room, to leave congratulatory messages. A more traditional Book of Celebration was also available, to allow colleagues to write their personal reflections.

The University of the Year and the Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative trophies were both on display throughout the event – along with a letter of congratulations from Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Professor Graham Henderson, Vice-Chancellor said 'I was delighted to see so many colleagues and their families at the celebration event held on Tuesday 3 November. It was wonderful to see so many members of our University community taking such pride in our exceptional achievements.'
