Click clinches national Silver award

25 November 2009

Our student radio station Click is celebrating its national recognition.

Click earned the Silver award in the Chart Show of the Year category at the national Student Radio Association’s Awards.

The Student Radio Association chart is broadcast nationally to over 50 student stations, with each University taking its turn to host the show. Click was shortlisted for the Chart Show of the Year award along with five other Universities.

Teesside hosted the Chart Show back in June – when the station was still known by its previous name UTRN. Click changed its name from UTRN as the station’s producers felt a new name was needed following the recent launch of Teesside University’s new identity.

Final year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Craig Wright, 21, of Newcastle, won a competition to create the new name and logo for Click.

Recognised for quality broadcasting Dominic Dunn, the station’s Assistant Producer, said: 'It’s a fantastic achievement for the station and all involved, considering we're only two years old. The station is getting recognised for quality broadcasting.'

David McPhee, the station’s Technical Director, added: 'The students working on the radio station are probably the most engaged students that I have ever come across.'

Click, which broadcasts from Aurora House on campus, is aimed at students and staff with programmes focusing on campus life, events happening across the region and primarily music.

The station was launched in January 2008 and is streamed live through the University’s online network.

Click’s national award follows Teesside’s recent success in being named University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Awards.
