Community consultation underway for new Academy

A new Academy is being proposed for Thornaby, with the University as the lead sponsor.

The current Thornaby Community School is due to close and will re-open in the next school year as The Academy for Thornaby.

The University is to be the lead sponsor, working with three co-sponsors, Stockton Riverside College and Stockton Sixth Form College and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

A consultation process with parents, teachers and other staff is already underway. Further events are taking place for the local community, giving them the opportunity to give feedback on the proposed Academy and also to find out further information.

The events will take place at:

> December 5, Thornaby Pavilion, 9.00am until 12 noon > December 9, Thornaby Swimming Baths, 5.00pm until 7.00pm > December 10, Thornaby School, 3.00pm until 4.00pm > December 12, Thornaby Pavilion, 9.00am until 12noon > December 14, David Lloyd Leisure, 4.00pm until 5.00pm > December 14, Teesside Retail Park, 5.30pm until 7.30pm > December 16, Splash Swimming Pool, Stockton, 4.00pm until 6.30pm > December 17, Splash Swimming Pool, Stockton, 4.00pm until 6.30pm > December 18, Captain Cook Square, Middlesbrough, 11.00am until 1.00pm > December 18, Castlegate Shopping Centre, Stockton, 2.00pm until 5.30pm.

A world class Academy Lynn Parker, Director of Educational Partnerships at the University, said: 'As sponsors, we are very excited at being invited to work closely with the staff, students and community of Thornaby Community School.

'Our aim is to submit proposals for a world class Academy and we hope everyone in Thornaby will take an opportunity to let us have their views.'
