Professional training in video journalism and film editing

13 January 2010

Courses in video journalism and film editing are to be run by our School of Arts & Media in February.

The video journalism and Final Cut Pro 7 courses both lead to University credits and coincide with the launch of a new funding initiative to help individuals and companies through the recession.

Subsidies are available for eligible SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and registered freelancers.

The four-day video journalism course will be held on March, 03, 04, 10 and 11 in the University’s Cook Building, off Stephenson Street, Middlesbrough.

The course was originally delivered to Trinity Mirror and Newsquest North East employees in response to the changing roles of the conventional print journalist. It is equally suited to anyone who wishes to shoot, edit and upload high quality video content onto their business website. The course covers camera techniques, editing, interview skills, filming and uploading files to the Internet. The course leads to 20 University credits, which can count towards further study such as foundation degrees or degree courses.

Cost is £1,190 per person. The subsidised cost for eligible SMEs is £120 subject to successful ECIF (Economic Challenge Investment Fund) and Business Link applications.

Apple Authorised Training Centre Teesside recently became an Apple Authorised Training Centre - and the first of five subsidised Final Cut Pro 7 training courses will be held on February 17, 18, 19 and 24 at the University’s Aurora House Media Centre, Southfield Road, Middlesbrough.

It leads to an Apple accredited Final Cut Pro 7 Level 1 certificate and 20 University credits, which can count towards further study such as foundation degrees or degree courses.

Final Cut Pro is the industry standard video editing package and is used by many professional TV and film editors. Version 7 provides integration with Apple's other Pro applications, with improved codec support for editing HD, DV and SD video formats.

Cost is £810 per person. The subsidised cost for eligible SMEs is £85 subject to successful ECIF (Economic Challenge Investment Fund) and Business Link applications. The cost of the Apple exam and Final Cut Pro 7 handbook is included in the fee.
