Creating a culture to be proud of

01 March 2010

Our Culture on Campus programme continues to impress with a range of diverse and enriching events.

Among recent highlights was the evening special A Night at the Musicals - performed by Miranda Francis and the Norton Ensemble and conducted by David Beall with accompanist Alison Gill.

Around 100 people packed the Brittan Building for the two hour concert on 25 February, which was performed in aid of Alzheimer’s.

Offering something a little bit different was Walking to Scheveningen on 17 February - a multi-vocal, multi-media, spoken word beat travelogue by Andy Willoughby and Bob Beagrie set to a live jazz piano score composed by Anthony Flint.

It took the audience through the streets of The Hague with two desperate poets on a search for Englishness that was both tragic and hilarious.

And pupils from the English Martyrs School Big Band showed that you are never too young to enjoy Culture on Campus with a well-received lunchtime concert on 24 February.

Embracing Culture on Campus Jessica Turner, Culture and Events Co-ordinator, said: ‘I am pleased to see that staff, students and members of the public are embracing the Culture on Campus programme and coming along to enjoy the fantastic events that we have to offer.

‘I look forward to developing the programme further and ensuring that Culture on Campus continues to grow and offers a diverse programme which can be enjoyed by everyone.’
