University welcomes young hockey stars

29 April 2010

Young sports enthusiasts experienced Teesside’s facilities when they took part in the Tees Valley mini hockey competition at the University.

Various primary schools were involved in the competition, after winning their own cluster competitions in the build up to the finals.

The event, held in early April, was ran by Tees Valley Sport and SUNEE, Sports Universities North East England, who had trained a number of aspiring sports leaders to volunteer during the event.

There was high quality hockey throughout the day, but it was Egglescliffe Primary School who finished victorious.

Tees Valley Senior Competition Manager, Stephen Mohan, was extremely pleased with the event.

He said: ‘The youngsters have come here today, having already represented their school at a cluster level and really enjoyed their day.

‘It’s all extra experience for them - it’s challenging and extremely rewarding.’
