Entrepreneurs back our bid for national award

30 September 2010

Graduates who have launched successful businesses here at Teesside have backed our bid to be crowned Entrepreneurial University of the Year.

We are finalists for the prestigious Times Higher Education award after impressing judges with our approach to enterprise and entrepreneurship.

Honorary Graduate and Dragon’s Den star Duncan Bannatyne has already thrown his support behind Teesside.

And now a number of graduate businesses have come forward to say how the University encouraged them to achieve their dreams and ambitions.

They know first hand how the entrepreneurial support at Teesside can launch businesses and help them to succeed and expand.

We can go on and win it Television and film production company 1876 Productions Ltd took up residency in the Victoria Building’s graduate business incubation units last year.

Jim McMaster, who graduated with a BA (Hons) Television Production Professional Practice, is one of four members of staff at the company.

He said: ‘The support which the University has offered to us since we’ve set up our company has been great and the help and advice we’ve received from the people at the Victoria Building has been invaluable. They go out of their way to help find a solution to any possible problem.’

Anthony Borsumato, Director of 13 Strides, a sports digital agency based in the Institute of Digital Innovation, added: ‘It’s great that the University is a finalist for Entrepreneurial University of the Year – every year the place keeps growing and I’m really proud. It’s definitely deserved and I think we can go on and win it.’
