Nashwan’s Japanese reality

30 September 2010

Teesside University’s Professor Nashwan Dawood is one of the keynote speakers at CONVR 2010 in Sendai, Japan.

Nash, Director of the University’s Centre for Construction Innovation and Research, and Director of the Technology Futures Institute, speaks about building information modelling, taking a visual and whole lifecycle approach.

CONVR 2010 - the 10th international conference on Construction Applications of Virtual Reality - is hosted by Miyagi University in Japan jointly with Osaka University, Chuo University and Teesside University.

Running from 4-5 November 2010, it brings together researchers and practitioners in all areas of the architectural, civil engineering and construction industries. Here they share ideas in applying virtual and augmented realities.

Virtual reality and augmented reality are exciting technologies that offer great potential benefits from initial planning and conceptual design through to facility management and operations. They allow people to see and interact with a building or infrastructure design and its construction process before it’s built.

Nash is a firm supporter of academic partnerships with business and industry. He specialises in creating computer modelling tools which rehearse a construction process virtually – identifying hot spots before site operations begin, and potentially saving businesses tens of thousands of pounds caused by unexpected problems.
