Teesside University's Christmas spirit

23 December 2010

Teesside University staff and students have proved they are truly full of Christmas spirit, by generously donating to two local organisations.

The donations were:

> Food for the Mary Thompson Fund, a hardship fund for people seeking asylum and settled refugees. The majority of people it supports are legally in the UK, are not allowed to work, cannot be removed to their home country for various legal reasons and it is illegal for them to receive any public funding.

> Toiletries and items of warm clothing for Nightstop – a local charity which supports young homeless people in the area aged 16 – 25.

Teesside University’s Chaplain, the Rev Andrew Howard, said: 'At this time of year some people can become very desperate, so I hope we’re helping to raise awareness of these very worthwhile organisations. We’ve had a good response and thank all of the students and staff for their generosity.'
