Talent shines at Animex extravaganza

11 February 2011

A dazzling array of animation and computer games talent descended on the University for the twelfth Animex international festival of animation and computer games.

Animex began as a two day conference in 2000 and now spans five days of awards ceremonies, film screenings, master classes, workshops and talks by inspirational global figures from the worlds of animation and computer games.

Among the cream of the world’s animation talent who attended this year’s event was Eric Goldberg, a veteran director, designer, and animator, best known for his work at Walt Disney Feature Animation. He delivered a masterclass and gave a talk about his career.

His many roles have included supervising animator of Aladdin’s Genie, co-director of the hugely successful Pocahontas, supervising animator of Phil in Hercules and supervising animator for Louis in The Princess and the Frog. Most recently, he worked as supervising animator for Rabbit in Disney’s upcoming Winnie-the-Pooh feature film.

Also at Animex was Karen deJong, production designer and art director on the 3D animation Gnomeo & Juliet, along with producer and visual effects animator Tony West, who was involved in a range of box office hits, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Mulan.
