University workshops give business boost

12 April 2011

Small businesses and entrepreneurs can benefit from free workshops run by the University over the coming months.

The two day workshops aim to provide attendees with valuable skills and knowledge to help promote their business and to prepare them for future economic challenges.

Part-financed by the region’s European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme, the workshops can also assist business owners to develop the skills of their workforce.

The first workshop, the effective directors’ programme, runs on 14 and 21 April, and is repeated on dates in May and June.

Catherine Kearney, Enterprise and Business Liaison Manager at Teesside, said: ‘It will demonstrate to business owners how to be an effective director through business model analysis, business finance awareness and development of key management skills.’

The second two-day workshop, selling skills, will be delivered on 4 and 5 May, and will run again in June. Topics covered include customer targets, telesales and sales meetings – giving businesses that vital edge in closing the sale and enhancing customer retention.

Catherine said: ‘These workshops are a fantastic opportunity for small businesses to stay ahead of the game on sales and management matters, and can make a real difference in their long-term performance.

‘The sessions are completely free of charge and we hope they will appeal to business owners, and I would encourage them to sign up and come along.’

To register for one of the workshops, contact the University’s Enterprise Team on 01642 384400, or email edp@tees.ac.uk.
