Leftfield music legend Billy Bragg heads for Teesside

15 September 2011

Legendary British singer/songwriter Billy Bragg is heading to the Students’ Union as part of his Left Field in Motion tour.

Bragg is famed for his radical politics and a string of memorable protest tracks in a career spanning over 30 years, including ‘A New England’ and ‘Sexuality’. He will perform in The Hub on Wednesday 16 November.

Lori Wheatman, President of Teesside University Students' Union, said: ‘We're keen to be as broad a church as possible and it's an amazing honor to welcome someone of Billy Bragg's stature and integrity to the Students' Union, he'll also be bringing some distinctive and memorable support acts with him too. I'm sure it will be a fantastic show for students and the general public alike to enjoy.’

Since taking over the running of the Left Field at Glastonbury Festival in 2010, Bragg has made an effort to showcase young artists who are mixing pop and politics. The Left Field in Motion Tour will take that concept on the road in an attempt to connect a new generation to the power of music with something to say.

Bragg said: ‘Music helped me to make connections when I was growing up – between the situation I found myself in and the powerful people who put me there. Artists need to start engaging in this debate again.’

Tickets for Billy Bragg’s Left Field in Motion tour are £13 and will be available from the Terrace Bar in the Students' Union from Thursday 22nd September.
