Transform your coaching skills at Teesside

15 September 2011

Coaching individuals has become increasingly popular as a tool for developing staff, in both the private and public sectors.

Teesside University’s Business School is launching for the first time in October, a postgraduate certificate in coaching for transformational change.

Students will be able to complete the qualification part-time by attending one day masterclasses each month at the University’s new £13m Darlington campus, combined with online learning.

Effective development tool Carolyn Ward, Programme Leader for the new Certificate, said: 'Last year the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) completed a Learning and Development survey. It found that over eight out of ten respondents used coaching in their organisations. Coaching of course has its origins in the sporting domain and it’s now seen as a highly effective developmental tool for individuals.

'It can nurture, develop and support individuals to make decisions for themselves and gain more confidence. This new course will appeal to those in a range of roles, including team leaders or supervisors, managers, senior leaders or executives and Human Resource Management practitioners.' Modules covered are: • Applied Reflection and Reflexivity • Essential Coaching Skills and Practice • Principles of Coaching and Change. The course begins in October and ends in May 2012.
