Sisters pledge to achieve their dreams at Teesside

19 December 2011

Teesside University has become a real family affair for Malaysian sisters Lydia and Nadia Kamal who have both moved from their homeland to study here.

Lydia, 22, came to Teesside University to study BA (Hons) International Management.

She enjoyed the experience so much that she stayed on to study for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and also recommended the University to her younger sister Nadia, 19, who is now in the second year of her BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance.

Both girls say they feel at home in Teesside and that coming to the University was one of the best decisions they have ever made.

'I always wanted to study abroad and Teesside University has a strong reputation and is highly regarded in Malaysia,' said Lydia, who is working part-time as an Administrator in Teesside University Business School while studying.

'As soon as I came here I knew it was the right University for me – I love the environment and the lecturers are fantastic. 'I didn’t hesitate in recommending the University to my sister and it’s great that we are both over here together – it’s an amazing opportunity for both of us.'

A great place to study Nadia, who hopes to become an accountant when she graduates, added: 'Teesside is a great place to study and because we are so far away from home, it’s great to be together – we both love it here.'

Lydia and Nadia are from Kelantan in Malaysia and when Lydia graduated from her undergraduate degree in November, seven members of her family came over to celebrate her success.

'They were all so proud to see me graduate and were really happy with the University', added Lydia.

'I also feel really proud. I achieved my goal and finished my degree and that is why I chose Teesside again to study for my masters.'
